The Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami, like other Gouramis, is known significantly for its outstanding looks. It has distinct colour morphs of the Dwarf Gourami Triochagaster lalius. The Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami is unique in its own way largely because of its look; it has a more pronounced hue of blue than its founding species. The Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami has well-defined strong vertical stripes strewn over a bright turquoise to neon blue colour. This species was created by breeders and the final result – the Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami – may be optionally referred to as the Rainbow Gourami.   Obviously, the Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami makes quite the view in an aquarium, its only difference (in terms of colouration) from the regular Dwarf Gourami is the rich blue colour it has. As it is with most other Gouramis, the Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami adult grows to a maximum length of 3 inches which is unarguably small, female species of the Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami are smaller, with the biggest barely reaching 2 1/3 inches.

The Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami is relatively peaceful and easy to breed. They tend to get bullied by fish who are more energetic than they are and that pester them. While they often withdraw in the presence of more aggressive fishes, they get defensive and territorial when in the company of luxuriantly coloured fishes, as well as other dwarf gouramis.
