The Sailfin Pleco (or Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps) is a strong fish that is able to eat incredible amounts of algae, with a few of this species, an entire tank can be kept clean. The Sailfin Pleco is a typical freshwater fish that is ray-finned from the Loricariidae family. The minimum tank size requirement needed to house this fish comfortably is 70 gallons, and this can only manage sailfin plecos that are less than 40cm in length. The Sailfin Pleco are natural habitats of Peru and Brazil; it was first found in the rivers at Rio Pacaya which flows sluggishly, the Sailfin Pleco forms small schools as they wander about in search of food. The adult Sailfin Pleco can grow up to the length of 55cm featuring large brown spots spread randomly across its fibers that are yellow. When keeping a Sailfin Pleco in a tank, it is necessary that you ensure that there are enough algae for them to feed on.
